Perpetual Flux
Completion: 2020
Location: Allen Event Center, Allen, Tx
Description: We were inspired by the unique synergy that exists between the identity of the City of Allen and its Event Center. As a modern-day, vibrant “town square” for the City, the Event Center has attracted many visitors from all over the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex to Allen. This dynamic influx of visitors has connected Allen to DFW and DFW to Allen in a profound way. The Allen Event Center inspires pride as a pioneering facility that can rapidly transform to accommodate any event, whether it be a hockey or soccer game, bull riding competition, music concert, dance performance, convention, graduation, or private event. We envision this perpetual flux as a poetic metaphor for the dynamism of the Event Center.
Perpetual Flux features a continually changing, suspended kinetic artwork composed of sculptural elements. The configuration of the sculptural elements moves in a wave-like manner, interpreting the abstracted movement through space and time of the various movements of the human form, related to the diverse activities that take place at the Event Center. Each sculptural element is composed of dichroic acrylic presenting visitors with a continually changing color gradient as the artwork moves. Taking advantage of the dramatic natural sunlight that infuses the space, the artwork reflects the changing atmospheric qualities of the outside creating vibrant patterns of reflected color on the rotunda’s interior surface.
